Privacy Policy — Unshelve It
Effective date: September 29, 2026 Last updated: September 29, 2026
1. The short version
- We store your account, the games you own, your playtime, and anything you add yourself — status, notes, ratings — so we can recommend what to play next.
- We only pull your library from Steam when you ask us to.
- We do not sell your data, and we do not run advertising or analytics trackers.
- You can export everything we hold on you, or delete it, at any time.
- Everything is stored in the United States.
The rest of this page is the detail behind those points.
2. Who we are
Unshelve It (unshelveit.com) is operated by Levantasoft Systems LLC, a Michigan limited liability company. Levantasoft Systems LLC decides how and why your information is used.
Contact: support@levantasoft.com
Unshelve It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Valve Corporation.
3. Where the service is offered
Unshelve It is directed to users in the United States. It is offered in English, in United States dollars, and is not directed to or intended for users in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland. We do not market the Service in those territories and do not offer localized pricing, language, or support for them.
We do not block access from outside the United States. If you use the Service from elsewhere, you do so on your own initiative, and your information will be stored and processed in the United States as described in Section 5.
4. What we collect
Information you give us
- Your email address, which is how you sign in. We never ask for or store a password — signing in sends a single-use link to that address, and the link expires in 15 minutes. While a link is outstanding we hold a one-way hash of it, never the link itself, and it is deleted the moment it is used.
- Your Steam account identifier (SteamID), if you choose to link a Steam account so we can sync that library. Linking Steam is optional — it is not how you sign in, and the Service works without it.
- Games you add yourself — titles from Epic, GOG, or elsewhere, entered manually or imported from a file you upload
- Anything you record about a game: status, rating, notes, whether you've excluded it, and which recommendations you accepted or skipped
- Preferences you set in the app, such as filters and saved picks
- A profile picture, if you upload one. Your browser shrinks it to a small square before it is sent. We store it with your account, show it only to you, include it in your data export, and delete it when you remove it or delete your account.
Information we retrieve from Steam on your behalf
Using Valve's public Steam Web API, and only when you ask us to:
- The list of games on your Steam account
- Total and recent playtime for each of those games, and when you last played them
- Game names and icons
Information collected automatically
- Standard server logs — IP address, browser type, pages requested, timestamps — kept for security, abuse prevention, and debugging
- A coarse country code, recorded once when you create your account. We derive it from your IP address at that moment, store only the two-letter country, and never update it. We use it solely to understand where our users are located in aggregate. It is not used to profile you, target you, or restrict your access.
We do not collect payment card details. We do not use advertising trackers, and we do not run third-party analytics of any kind.
We compute aggregate service statistics from the information described above, including recommendation outcomes, and those aggregates are viewed only by the operator to run and improve the Service. We do not add tracking technology or collect new information for this purpose, and the operator view does not contain a per-user behavior timeline.
5. Where your information is stored
In the United States, on Microsoft Azure. We do not store your information outside the United States.
6. How we use it, and why we're allowed to
We use the information above only to:
- Generate and display game recommendations for you
- Let you sign in and keep your library and preferences between visits
- Keep the service running, secure, and free of abuse
- Respond to you when you contact us
We do not sell your information. We do not share it for advertising. We do not use it to build profiles for anyone other than you.
We only retrieve data about you from Steam when you request it — when you choose to sync your linked Steam library. We do not poll Steam for your data in the background without your involvement.
7. Your Steam privacy settings are yours to control
Linking a Steam account tells us which Steam library to sync. It does not grant us access to anything Steam does not already make public about you.
Whether we can read your library depends entirely on your own Steam profile privacy setting. If your game details are set to private, we will see nothing and the Steam portion of the service will not work for you. Making that setting public is your decision, and it makes that information visible to anyone — not only to us. You can change it back at any time, and doing so will stop us from being able to refresh your library.
Games you add yourself are unaffected by your Steam settings.
8. Who else is involved
We keep this list short on purpose.
| Who | What they do | What they see |
|---|---|---|
| Microsoft Azure | Hosting, storage | Everything we store, as our service provider |
| Valve / Steam | Source of library data; Steam account linking | Your requests to their API and Steam account linking |
| IGDB / Twitch | Game metadata and image delivery | Our server looks up game identifiers, without account details. Your browser contacts images.igdb.com to display game images; this sends your IP address and browser request information to that service. |
| Gravatar (Automattic) | Your profile picture, only if you turn on "Use my Gravatar" | Off unless you turn it on. While it is on, your browser loads your picture from gravatar.com, which sends that service your IP address, browser request information and a hash of your email address. Turning it off stops those requests. |
We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of Levantasoft Systems LLC or our users.
9. Game artwork loads directly from Steam
Cover art and capsule images are served straight from Steam's content delivery network rather than copied onto our servers. This means your browser contacts Steam's servers directly to load those images, and Steam can see your IP address and which images you requested, the same as if you visited a Steam store page. Game artwork remains the copyright of its respective publisher.
10. How long we keep things
| What | How long |
|---|---|
| Your account and preferences | Until you delete them |
| Your library, playtime, notes, ratings, and status | Until you delete them |
| Backups | Purged within 30 days |
| Server logs | 90 days |
When you delete your data, it is removed from our live systems immediately and from any backup within 30 days.
11. Deleting and exporting your data
You control this from your account:
- Export — download everything we hold about you as a JSON file
- Delete — permanently remove your account, your stored library, and your preferences
You can also email support@levantasoft.com. We will respond within 30 days. We may need to confirm you control the account in question before acting on a request — this protects you from someone else exporting or erasing your data.
Deleting your data here has no effect on your Steam account or your games.
12. Cookies and local storage
We use only what's necessary to keep you signed in and to keep the site working. No advertising cookies, no analytics cookies, no third-party trackers. Blocking essential cookies will prevent you from signing in.
To make the app load faster, your browser may keep a local copy of your own game library on your own device (browser "local storage"). It contains nothing beyond what you already see in the app, is never used for tracking or analytics, and is removed when you sign out or delete your account. Clearing your browser data removes it too; the app works without it.
13. Children
Unshelve It is not intended for anyone under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has given us information, email support@levantasoft.com and we will delete it.
14. Security
We protect your information with encryption in transit and at rest, restricted access to production systems, and secrets kept out of source control. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee that your information will never be accessed without authorization. The most sensitive thing we hold is a list of games you own and what you thought of them.
15. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. The "Last updated" date will change, and material changes will be announced on the site. Continuing to use Unshelve It after a change takes effect means you accept the updated policy.
